Uproar To Lift Ban On Driving
Riyadh: Saudi women would be observing ‘Oct 26, Driving for Women’ as petition day to force the law institutions in the Islamic kingdom to uplift ban on women-driving. More than five thousand eight hundred signatories had gathered last Sunday to voice against the restriction.
The petition had statements of various women who said that next month they would
be able to drive the cars. Many of the ladies have earned foreign licenses which makes them capable to teach other women of the countries to get equipped with the art of driving.

Nasima-al Sada, an enthusiastic 20 year old young petitioner said, ‘I would drive on October 26’. Around twenty women would be participating in the campaign that is said to be organized in the Eastern province of the country.
The petition states that even in the time of Holy Prophet Muhammad Salallaho alaihe wassallam, women took part in camel and horse riding. Cars are the modes of travelling in the modern ages; hence we should not be deprived from it. Petitioners also said that there is not any text or commandment in Hadith or the religious preaching that restrict women to ride or drive.
On June 17 2011, the last day of defiance was observed in Saudia. The women who took part in the protest were forced to sign a petition of restricting themselves of driving permission
Saudi Arabia is said to be ultra-conservative kingdom that does not enjoy women freedom and has severe punishments in case of violations of the rules.
